This summer I got selected to do a two month long internship at Arab Museum of Modern Art (AMOMA). It is a new organization established a couple of years ago under Qatar Museum Authority. At the moment their office consists of two huge villas located at Garrafa right opposite to Landmark Mall. The entire staff over here is very busy and are working on various projects to get their museum up and running towards the end of this year.
The physical construction of the museum at the moment is towards its closing stages. A very interesting fact which I came across was, the museum being built was once upon a time a primary school for kids. However, since it was abandoned for a long period of time I suppose it is an awesome idea to reuse the resources available.
So I got selected for this internship through the Professional Day at CMUQ. I am working in the Marketing and Media Department and my position is titled – SOCIAL MEDIA ASSISTANT (Sounds pretty cool to me). The main aim of my job is to use as well as understand the importance of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr etc… in the current world and how we can use it to increase the audience of a particular product or institution. Web 2.0 has revolutionized the world. Social Websites are becoming a new way to attract more audiences. Websites such as Facebook and YouTube rank in the top three websites visited worldwide. (Click here to view rankings)This internship would help me to realize the potential of such applications in the coming future and use it to our best interests.
However, I am not the only intern they selected; Nasreen Zahan a graduate from my university is also interning with me in the same department. It’s an eight week long internship and the both of us here hope to learn a lot of things through it. I personally have never worked in such an environment were in I would be dealing with the image of an organization. I am extremely looking forward to this internship and hoping my best to overcome the many challenges I would be facing.
